Hello Stefan,

Thank you once again for your input.

I have indeed installed xine through Ubuntu packages. So that might be the problem.

I must say that I am not familiar with xine. So I have been doing some research and testing some xine simple applications.

When you open a xine_video_driver you should specify the XINE_VISUAL_TYPE (X11, DFB, etc). At the moment I am having problems with most of them.

What I would like to understand is if this is the same problem you are reporting. There is a XINE_VISUAL_TYPE_RAW. Is this the visual type disko uses?

As you may see from my questions, I am a bit confused and I am still trying to figure out how the pieces stick together.

Many thanks,
André

Hi André,

no problem at all.

Yes disko is relying on XINE_VISUAL_TYPE_RAW. I filed a report to Ubuntu that this is missing in the installation which they already accepted. If you are using DirectFB as a disko backend we would use XINE_VISUAL_TYPE_DFB. This is done to ensure the use of special hardware capabilities delivered by DirectFB, but you should let this aside for now.

The best way to continue is to compile xine yourself. This will also create the raw video output plugin we are using.

As far as I can see, the rest of you code should be working.

have fun
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

Thank you again for your help. I am removing my current xine installation know, and I will proceed as you advised.

Nevertheless, I would really like to make sure that I fully understood how disko integrates with xine video driver. This is my understanding:

Disko uses either XINE_VISUAL_TYPE_RAW or XINE_VISUAL_TYPE_DFB. The decision is made internally/automatically depending on whether or not DirectFB is configured as the video output engine.

Am I correct?

In the meantime, this makes me jump into another question: How do I instruct disko to run over DirectFB? (which is my main goal btw)

I see in the file diskorc.xml a line that looks like:

<parameter name="outputtype" value="x11" />

Shall I simply change it into something like:

<parameter name="outputtype" value="DFB" />

?

Or is there anything else I must do?

Once again, thank you for all your help and specially for your patience

Best regards,
André
